What events are included?

  • The City of Culture have a series of outdoor spectacle events planned throughout the year alongside major, nationally significant opening and closing events, including mass participation and artistic collaborations.
  • Events that appeal to the broadest range of audiences including those currently underrepresented in the arts, families, students, national and international tourists, industry professionals and local residents.
  • Events that cover all art forms including theatre, music, dance, literature, comedy, film, visual art and workshops.

What is the UK City of Culture Competition?

UK City of Culture is a competition run by the Department for Digital, Culture, Media and Sport. Every four years, cities compete to be awarded the prestigious title. The first UK City of Culture was Derry/Londonderry in 2013 followed by Hull in 2017. The title brings with it a huge amount of opportunity to place your city on a national and international stage.

Coventry was awarded the title in December 2017 after competing against eleven other cities. The bid was won on the strength of our city’s diversity, its youthfulness and the opportunities that being so centrally located bring. Coventry’s year in the spotlight will run from May 2021 – May 2022.

Security Officer – Job Description

  • Providing a human element to the process of protecting people and assets.
  • Reports to Security Supervisor
  • Liaison with the Clients’ representative and Control Room Officer

Main Duties – What We Expect

  • Patrol the clients’ premises to prevent and detect signs of intrusion and ensure security of doors, windows, and gates.
  • Answer alarms and investigate disturbances.
  • Monitor and authorize entrance and departure of employees, visitors, and other persons to guard against theft and maintain security of premises.
  • Write reports of daily activities and irregularities, such as equipment or property damage, theft, presence of unauthorized persons, or unusual occurrences.
  • Call police or fire brigade in cases of emergency, such as fire or presence of unauthorized persons.
  • Circulate among visitors, patrons, and employees to preserve order and protect property.
  • Answer telephone calls to take messages, answer questions, and provide information during non-business hours or when switchboard is closed.
  • Warn persons of rule infractions or violations, and apprehend or evict violators from premises, using force when necessary.
  • Operate detecting devices to screen individuals and prevent passage of prohibited articles into restricted areas.
  • Escort or drive motor vehicle to transport individuals to specified locations and to provide personal protection.
  • Completing a log of events and occurrences as well as visits and inspections (written or electronically).

About You – Personal Specification

  • Possessing a valid SIA Licence for Door Supervision.
  • Eligible to work in the UK. Five years checkable work history.
  • Fluency in English.

Event Security & Safety Steward – Job Description

  • Protection of people and assets at Events, Functions and on Licensed Premises.
  • Reports to Event Security Supervisor
  • Reports and liaises with event organizer representatives

Main Duties – What We Expect

  • To assist in crowd management. This includes prevention  and reporting of any over-crowding
  •  To reduce crowd related problems, including maintaining a state of calm to minimize any injury
  • Conflict Management. (SIA Licence holders staff only)
  •  Preventing unauthorized access to the site by public, and to restricted areas by guests.
  •  If necessary to provide assistance and support to the emergency services in the event
  • of a major incident.
  • Ensuring the health and well -being of all guests.
  •  Reporting any anti-social behavior, illegal activity or perceived dangers to the supervisor..
  • To have a good understanding of the communications system, how it works and be competent in the use of the radios
  •  To provide updates relating to stewarding issues within your area to the event organizer representative.
  • To provide traffic management and parking marshaling services.
  • Ensuring that all appropriate company equipment is available and fit for use.
  • Carry out all duties outlined in the Event   Assignment Instructions.

Door Supervisor Job Vacancy

Door Supervisor  – Job Description

  • Reports to Security Supervisor and on call manager.
  • Reports to and liaises with Clients’ representative.
  • Liaises with Control Room Officers.

Main Duties – What We Expect

  • To protect the property or premises from theft and damage.
  • To protect customers and staff from violence and assault.
  • To report to and take directions from the licensee or person in charge of the
  • event being supervised. (Such authority as a door supervisor has, is gained
  • through that person).
  • To refuse access to anyone whose presence at the event might render the
  • licensee or person in charge of the event subject to prosecution for any
  • offence.
  • To ensure that consent is obtained from each customer in front of witnesses
  • prior to any search-taking place, if personal searches are required as a
  • condition of entry.
  • To report for duty punctually with a neat and tidy appearance (at least 10
  • minutes before  contracted start time.)
  • Ensure communications equipment works and understanding how to use it.
  • When incidents occur note and report incidents in a daily logbook for the client and regulatory agencies.
  • Assisting the emergency services in whatever way they request and ensuring they are not obstructed in the execution of their duties.
